When to use it
How freight crosses
- You buy from or sell to a plant in Mexico.
- You want one record for a move that changes carriers at the border.
- Your goods qualify under USMCA and the paperwork has to be right.
Through-trailer
The same trailer crosses the border. Carriers interchange it on each side.Transload
Freight moves to another trailer at a border warehouse. Common on Mexico lanes.Southbound and northbound
Exports to Mexico and imports from it, each with its own documents.US and Canada
Truckload and LTL across the northern border.
Choosing
Through-trailer or transload?
Both cross the same bridge. The difference is whether the freight stays on its trailer.
| Criterion | Through-trailer | Transload |
|---|---|---|
| At the border | The trailer is interchanged between carriers | Freight is moved to another trailer at a border warehouse |
| Handling | The freight is not touched | One extra handling, recorded on the shipment |
| Suits | Regular lanes with carriers that interchange equipment | Mixed freight, or lanes without an interchange agreement |

Our role
How this service is delivered.
Cross-border lanes with Mexico and Canada are planned, through authorized carriers and licensed customs brokers on both sides of the border.
Before this service opens
- An active federal property broker registration and its bond.
- Carriers authorized for each leg of the lane.
- Licensed customs brokers appointed by the importer on each side.
Registrations, insurance and the carrier standard are published in the trust center as each one is verified.
Questions
Asked before a first shipment.
Carriers are authorized for their own side. A Mexican carrier may not haul domestic freight between US points, and few US carriers run deep into Mexico. A transfer carrier takes the trailer across between the two.
A licensed customs broker, appointed directly by the importer with a power of attorney. The broker makes the entry and advises on classification, value and duties. ErisWorlds coordinates the transport and shares shipment milestones with the broker.
Yes. Carrier liability under Mexican law is different and usually much lower than in the United States unless a value is declared. Ask how it applies to your lane, and about cargo insurance.
