When to use it

Inside fulfillment

  • Packing orders is taking over your week.
  • Customers in the Southeast and Texas wait too long for delivery.
  • Returns pile up with no process behind them.
  • Pick, pack and ship

Orders picked from stock, packed to your rules and handed to a parcel or freight carrier.
  • Kitting and bundling

Several items assembled into one sellable unit.
  • Returns

Returned items are received, checked against your rules, then restocked, refurbished or disposed of.
  • Marketplace preparation

Labeling and packing to a marketplace's inbound requirements.

How a shipment runs

Step by step, with nothing off the record.

  1. Onboarding

Your items, packaging rules and order sources.

  2. Inbound

Stock is received, counted and put away.

  3. Orders

Orders are sent to the fulfillment center. Direct store integrations are planned.

  4. Pick, pack, ship

Each order leaves with a carrier tracking number.

  5. Returns

Each return is recorded with its condition and what was done with it.

What the record shows

  1. Order created

The shipment is on the record: origin, destination, freight details and requested dates.

  2. Pickup scheduled

A pickup window is confirmed with the shipping location, and the carrier is named.

  3. Driver assigned

The carrier has named the driver and the equipment for the pickup, so the shipper can check both at the dock.

  4. Picked up

The freight is loaded and the carrier has signed for it. Custody passes from the shipper to the carrier.

  5. Origin hub

The freight is at the carrier terminal, cargo gateway or port where it is consolidated or accepted for the main leg.

  6. In transit

The main leg is under way, with position or status updates along the route and any exception reported with its cause.

  7. Customs processing

A licensed customs broker has the entry in hand: documents checked, declaration filed, release awaited.

  8. Destination hub

The freight is at the last terminal or gateway before the delivery address, released for the final leg.

  9. Out for delivery

The freight is on the delivery vehicle, with a delivery window or appointment.

  10. Delivered

The consignee has signed for the freight. Custody passes to the consignee and proof of delivery goes on the record.

Documents

The paperwork, and what each document is for.

Every document is attached to the shipment record, so nobody has to ask for it twice.

  • Item list

Every product with its identifier, dimensions and handling rules.
  • Packing slip

What is in the parcel, for the customer.
  • Return authorization

Links a returned parcel to its order.

Responsibilities

Who does what.

A shipment passes through several hands. Each stage has one party responsible for it, and the record names that party.
