What moves here

Where two continents trade.

Miami International Airport is one of the leading US airports for international freight and the main entry point for imported cut flowers and other perishables. PortMiami and Port Everglades, a short drive apart, handle containers on the same trades. Around them, Doral, Medley and Hialeah hold the warehouses where cargo is sorted, stored and sent on.

Good to know

What shippers here plan around.

  • The end of the line

Far more freight enters South Florida than leaves it. Trucks out are easy to find; trucks in cost more and should be booked early.
  • Flower peaks

The weeks before Valentine's Day and Mother's Day fill air cargo and refrigerated trucks. Other perishables feel it too.
  • Hurricane season

June through November. Ports and the airport close ahead of a storm and reopen in stages.
  • Traffic is a schedule item

Deliveries across the metro area are planned around rush hours, and port and airport pickups around appointment times.
